Location: Big Sur, California
Big Sur is hands down my favorite place in California for an adventurous engagement session. It also happens to be an epic choice for an elopement too. Because it’s such a small area bigger weddings aren’t really that easy to pull off there. This is totally ok because part of the charm is how quiet and secluded it feels even though it’s just a couple of hours from San Francisco. Pfeiffer Beach is one of the few accessible beaches in the area which makes it pretty popular. Going at sunrise is one of the ways to make sure you’re avoiding crowds and have the beach to yourself like Grace and Chris did when I photographed their adventurous sunrise engagement session there.
I woke at 4 am in Monterey and drove down the coast in the dark to meet Grace and Chris at Big Sur Bakery. From there we headed to the beach and touched upon the sand at roughly 6:30 am, while the sand was still cool and damp, just before the sun came up. We had the beach all to ourselves.
I’m a destination elopement and intimate wedding photographer helping couples craft a meaningful experience for their wedding day in nature. It’s my belief that elopements and intimate weddings should be treated with the same importance as a bigger more traditional wedding. Just minus the stress and with so much more fun!
